Rock’s Hidden Architect Steps Into the Spotlight: The Story of Ben Schultz

After nearly 58 years in music, the guitarist, composer, and producer who has worked alongside rock legends and helped shape modern recording technology is ready for his next chapter.

NASHVILLE, TN — Some musicians spend their careers in the spotlight. Others help shape the music from behind the scenes. Ben Schultz has done both.

A guitarist, composer, producer, and mixing-mastering engineer, Schultz has spent nearly six decades working alongside legendary musicians, performing with acclaimed bands, and contributing to the evolution of recording technology. From jamming with Jimi Hendrix and playing with B.B. King to touring and recording with Buddy Miles and performing with Barefoot Servants, his journey is filled with extraordinary musical experiences.

Beyond the stage, Schultz helped develop Digidesign’s Sound Designer, part of the technological history behind Pro Tools, and participated in the development and testing of audio hardware and software used by musicians and engineers.

But his story goes far beyond music.

After losing his home during the 2008 financial crisis, enduring difficult family circumstances, and facing Stage IV non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Schultz found himself rebuilding his life from the ground up. His journey eventually brought him to Nashville, where he began working toward a new chapter in his career.

Today, through The Book of Benjamin, Schultz is bringing his musical vision back to the forefront, drawing on decades of experience and collaborations with accomplished musicians. His ambitions include building two major bands and reaching a new generation of listeners who appreciate guitar-driven rock, blues, and exceptional musicianship.

For Schultz, this isn't about reliving the past. It's about putting everything he's learned into what comes next.

His philosophy is simple: stay focused, keep out of your own way, and understand what truly matters in life. After nearly 58 years in the music business, he also hopes to give back to the artists and collaborators who helped shape his journey.

Known within the industry for his work behind the glass, Schultz is now ready to become more visible as an artist in his own right.

Call him the new old guy of rock and roll. With a lifetime of stories, an enduring passion for music, and ambitious plans ahead, Ben Schultz is proving that the next act can be just as exciting as the first.
